Shabba Ranks was born as Rexton Rawlston Fernando Gordon on January 17, 1966 and he is a Jamaican dancehall musician. In his generation of dancehall artists, he was one of the most popular. Further, he was also one of the first Jamaican deejays to gain worldwide acceptance and recognition. The recognition he got was mainly for his 'slack' lyrical expressions and content. In fact, his "ridin' di riddim", gravel toned, rough-sounding voice brought him instant recognition throughout the world. He has won two Grammy awards also. He now lives in New York, USA.
Young Dread firmly believes that the new album will cast a spell on music lovers and more so, on those who know Shabba Ranks and are fond of him and his music because he brought joy, thanks to the all-pervading charm as well as the prolific nature of his music. In short, his music has clearly proved that music is much more than an exercise of the mind.
