All equipment donations to St. Louis HELP are tax deductible.
St. Louis, Missouri… You can recycle home health equipment you don’t need and get a tax deduction by taking it to any of 14 locations in metro St. Louis for the health equipment drive hosted by the St. Louis Health Equipment Lending Program?(St. Louis HELP) on Saturday, May, 14.
“We collect home health items that people bring us from their attics and basements -- every year, we collect about 11,000 items of donated equipment,” says Laura Cannon-Singer, who founded the nonprofit organization St. Louis HELP in 2008.
“We clean, recondition and revitalize that home health equipment and then loan it for free to people who need it for as long as they need it,” she says.
In 2015 St. Louis HELP diverted about 150 tons of equipment from solid waste landfills by reconditioning and loaning 5,570 home health equipment items. Nothing goes to waste. Broken equipment parts are used for repairs. Broken wooden crutches are recycled to a wood chipper.
Virtually every type of home medical device – manual and electric wheelchairs; scooters; walkers, crutches, canes; hospital beds; portable commodes; elevated toilet seats; lift chairs?—?and more – is accepted by St. Louis HELP, which restores the equipment at its warehouse in St. Louis County.
St. Louis HELP’s May 14 equipment drive will be occur at 14 designated Walgreen’s parking lots in the metro area. Anyone with used home health equipment can drop it off between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m.
