“Even with all the high-tech gizmos and gadgets, an ice pack remains the most effective methods to relieve back and neck pain at home. Ice is especially effective when it is applied soon after the injury. But make sure that the ice is wrapped in a towel before applying,” says Dr. Chad Ahmed, an Minneapolis Chiropractor.
Heat is equally effective. In fact, some patients find heat therapy to be more effective than ice. “Heating pads, hot baths, gel packs, etc. can be used if heat therapy works for you. You can also alternate between heat therapy and ice packs for added effect,” he says.

The Doctor also advises against too much self treatment. “Patients must contact the doctor if the pain is constant or if the pain does not subside in 14 days.
