Pestwiki is a new blog style site which claims to be a sweet assistant for pest control, the site is a wealth of information with tips to help readers deal with every kind of infestation from termites to silverfish.
In their latest post Pestwiki look at termite infestations and give their 4 best remedies which they say really work. Termites are wood eating insects that go through a swarming stage, during this stage they can be mistaken for flying ants and an infestation of termites is obviously bad news, homeowners suspecting an infestation first need to identify what their home is infested with and Pestwiki say if they have a large termite infestation a homeowner should call for professional help. Termites eat wood and so can cause serious structural damage to a property.
To distinguish between termites and flying ants homeowners should look at the pest insects wing length, waist and antennae. Termites have straight antennae, a broad waist and both their wings are the same length, flying ants don't have straight antennae, their wings are different lengths and they go in at the waist.
If the homeowner is sure they have termites and they want to deal with it themselves using natural methods Pestwiki suggests orange oil, diatomaceous earth and neem oil, the site says all of these treatments are pet friendly. Home owners who don't have pets may want to try borax, the site gives detailed application instructions for all the above treatments.
A post that maybe of interest to even more readers is this one on silverfish, according to Pestwiki silverfish can enter a home in a number of ways even in building materials before the property is actually built or lived in. Pestwiki say that silverfish eat paper so if a homeowner wants to stop a silverfish infestation they should remove the pests food source but the pests can still live for a year without food, Pestwiki also suggest that homeowners make sure they seal flour, sugar, oatmeal and coffee containers.
Pestwiki give details of silverfish traps that homeowners can either buy or make themselves using newspaper or bottles. Pestwiki say that homeowners with pets or children may want to avoid commercial sprays, the site suggests a lavender or citrus spray instead.
