Mozambique, 10th August- The lively city of Maputo (formerly known as Lourenco Marques) is the capital of Mozambique and once a center of great partying for jetsetters in years gone by. Its striking Portuguese colonial history and natural splendor drew a great number of tourists before the civil war broke out in the 70s and 80s.
Maputo suffered heavily due to the war, but it is back in the limelight and undergoing ongoing rejuvenation. Tourists to this unique Mozambique city can plunge themselves into the rich cultural legacy, architecture and traditions while relishing fresh peri peri prawns and local beer at various hotels and restaurants. The city also has a reputation for great night life with a range of discos and bars. The best time to visit Maputo is throughout the dry winter months from April to September when the days are sunshiny and nights are cold.
Some of the fascinating city sites in Maputo are the Central Railway Station building, the Yellow House, the House of Iron, Museum of the Revolution, Money Museum, Council Chambers, Geology Museum and more.
