Mahindra Ecole Centrale College of Engineering, Hyderabad hosts

Indian Control Conference 2016

More than 170 participants congregate for the conference including 70 odd Doctoral students and 100 academicians, including 20 from around the world

The Second Indian Control Conference (ICC 2016) took place at Mahindra Ecole Centrale College of Engineering, Hyderabad during January 4-6, 2016. ICC is a leading engineering and scientific conference, committed to the progress and development of control theory and practice. The ICC 2016 brought together more that 70 Doctoral students and over 100 academicians, researchers and practitioners to discuss the latest in the world of control systems. Over 20 of these Control specialists flew into India to be a part of the proceedings.

ICC 2016 was a three-day event, with the first day dedicated to Tutorials and Workshops. ICC 2016 is being technically co-sponsored by the IEEE(institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) Control Systems Society, which is also acquiring the proceedings. Consequently the papers in the Proceedings of ICC 2016 will be included in IEEE Xplore Library, the most important platform for any research and technical papers in all areas of engineering including electrical engineering, computer science and electronics.

“The conference will showcase the latest advancement and opportunities for control theory in research and applications. The Control Systems are the definitive base of most applications in every area of science, be it Medical, Financial,  or Technical. The applications are innumerable and therefore it is imperative that the advancements in research be encouraged and a platform created in India to showcase the initiatives. ICC 2016 will do this and much more”, says Prof. Vijaysekhar Chellaboina, Program Co-Chair of Indian Control Conference 2016 and Professor, School of Engineering Science, Mahindra Ecole Centrale.

The conference was hosted by Mahindra Ecole Centrale (MEC). MEC believes in a highly interdisciplinary department-agnostic education. The curriculum involves a strong foundation in engineering, natural, and social sciences with specialization only in the 3rd and 4th years of the B.Tech program. The Indian Control Conference with its focus on mathematics and a wide variety of applications is very well aligned with the pedagogical philosophy of Mahindra Ecole Centrale.

IEEE Control Systems Society explains what are control systems and their usages. “Control systems are ubiquitous, essential, and largely invisible to the general public. Products ranging from the paper that we use, the beer, wine, or water that we drink, the newspapers that we read, to the drugs that treat our diseases depend on automatic controllers for their uniformity and consistency.” For more information, please visit: http://www.ieeecss.org/general/control-systems-are-ubiquitous

With its origins in the disruptive invention of James Watt's speed controlling governor, the subject of feedback control and control systems is ever expanding in terms of both theory and its applications. The mathematical and computational framework developed over the decades for studying control systems are equally suitable to analyze human behavior in an economic set up as well as molecular systems in a human cell. Traditionally control systems are considered the subject of electrical engineers but everyone from computer scientist to mechanical engineers to financial engineers cannot survive today without some basic knowledge of control systems.

Most developing and developed countries have yearly (international and national) conferences completely dedicated to control systems and its applications IEEE, the biggest professional body in the world, sponsors many control based conferences including organizing the annual Conference on Decision and Control. To fill the gap of such a conference in India, Professor Vidyasagar (Univeristy of Texas, Dallas) along with several researchers from Indian institutes including Professor Vijaysekhar Chellaboina (Mahindra Ecole Centrale) started the Indian Control Conference in 2015. The first edition was held in IIT Madras in January 2015. The current edition is being held at Mahindra Ecole Centrale. The conference is sponsored by IIT Hyderabad and technically co-sponsored by the IEEE Control System Society along with several industry sponsors including Mathworks, GE, Honeywell, and ABB. The IEEE outreach fund also supports travel and other expenses for more than seventy doctoral students.

About Mahindra Ecole Centrale

Mahindra Ecole Centrale(MEC) college of engineering is an international technology school, that marks the foray of the USD 16.5 billion Mahindra Group into the higher education sector. Mahindra Educational Institutions, the wholly owned subsidiary of Mahindra Group’s IT venture, Tech Mahindra, collaborated with École Centrale Paris - now CentraleSupélec in 2014 to establish MEC in India. Ecole Centrale Paris (now CentraleSupélec) is one of the oldest and most prestigious engineering institutions in France with a heritage that goes back to nearly 200 years. MEC is approved by AICTE and Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) Hyderabad, a premier institution with academic and research-oriented courses.

MEC offers a truly international programme with an inclusive focus on the Engineering, Social and Creative sciences, Liberal Arts, Philosophy and Humanities. It offers an environment of unique cultural immersion – of participants, faculty and staff. MEC offers international exchange study opportunities with mandatory global internships. The B.Tech degree at MEC is a research-driven program with close links to industry.

A world class faculty, with a mix of industry-academic background, global exposure and research focus ensures that the content remains contemporary, aligned to the global business requirements. MEC is committed to providing world-class infrastructure to support a strong research vision in thrust areas such as Energy, Environment, Communications, Infrastructure, Transportation, Materials, and Defence.

Based in Bahadurpally, Hyderabad, MEC is situated in a sprawling green campus of 130 acres flanked by the Tech Mahindra Technology Centre and Tech Mahindra SEZ. MEC has an intake of 240 for its 4 year B.Tech Program(60 seats for each of the four courses – Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering). For more information, please visit: http://www.mahindraecolecentrale.edu.in
